The Coos Art Museum will not charge admission during the Prefontaine Memorial Run weekend and Bay Area Fun Festival, Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21.

Prefontaine is remembered and honored in his hometown, Coos Bay, through a variety of ways including the Prefontaine Memorial Run. The museum houses the Prefontaine Memorial Gallery, a large collection of  Pre’s awards and memorabilia, as well as numerous photographs highlighting his illustrious running career.

To make this gallery display available to all of the runners and Pre’s fans, the Prefontaine Memorial Run Committee has arranged to make museum admission free during the weekend of the race.

The museum also will have special hours for the run and festival: Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to the Prefontaine Gallery, the museum will show two exhibitions:

n Low Tide on the Oregon Coast: an exhibition of mixed media sculpture by Angela Haseltine Pozzi and

n Important Graphic Art from the Permanent Collection: works by some of America’s most famous print makers.

The 15th-Annual Maritime Art Exhibition will remain open through 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

The museum’s regular hours other than during the Fun Festival are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Museum admission is $5 general, $2 students and seniors, and free to museum members.

ODOT seeks comments

The Oregon Department of Transportation has established a Web site with a survey to gauge public support and concerns for Transportation Enhancement projects competing in the 2008 funding cycle.

The agency is asking area residents to send in their ideas through the Web site by Sept. 15.

Click on the ODOT site at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/LGS.

At that point, look under “Announcements” and click on “list of projects”

Then look for Oregon Coast listings and select a town, click on Comment Survey.

In the survey, you can express your opinion on projects including the North Bend Transportation Enhancement project.

Those without access to the Internet may contact the Transportation Enhancement Program Manager at (503) 986-3528 for a printed copy of the Comment/Response form.
