SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Springfield after a woman was found dead in her car.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Wendy Jo Whitaker.

A neighbor said she called 911 at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday after gunshots rang out and a man began screaming for help for Whitaker.

A police officer arrived less than a minute later but the shooting suspect had already driven away.
