Oregon DEQ urges recycling for old TVs

PORTLAND (AP) — Don’t throw away that old TV when you switch to a digital set.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality suggests keeping the old TV as a second TV for games, videos or DVDs.

Or, the agency says, it could be donated to a secondhand store.

Officials note that many old TVs will still work fine when the nation moves to all-digital broadcasting in February.

But starting in January, Oregonians will be able to recycle their old TVs — along with computers and monitors — for free through the “Oregon E-Cycles” program that manufacturers pay for.
