The following is a list of needs from nonprofit and other groups that provide community services.

Youth group seeks sound equipment

Bay Area Young Life is looking for sound equipment: microphones, microphone stands, PA speakers, monitors, a drum kit or drum parts, cymbals and cymbal stands.

For more information and to make donations, call Todd Tardie at 290-6708 or Tad Jensen at 260-6334.

Clear fields for elk

The South Coast Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation wants volunteers to do some work on U.S. Forest Service land just outside of Reedsport. The project day will be held on Sept. 6 about 10 miles east of the top of the Gardiner Hill.

Volunteers will bring their own weed eaters and cut a 5-acre field of tall grass and black berries down to a height of 4 inches. This will help provide a better food source for elk.

Everyone will meet at 8 a.m. in the parking lot next to the Dairy Queen in Reedsport and follow a Forest Service rig to the site. For more information or to sign up, call Kirby at 269-9431.

Coos County Animal Shelter needs help

The Coos County Animal Shelter is looking for volunteers willing to spend four hours a week helping with shelter chores. A background check is required. The shelter also is looking for donations of cat and dog food and kitty litter. For more information, those interested can call 297-5115.

American Red Cross needs volunteers

The Oregon Pacific Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to help during blood drives.

For more information, those interested can call 888-6238.
