College report is in on Hansen inquiry

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Board of Education will hold an executive session Wednesday afternoon to discuss the performance of President Judith Hansen.

The special meeting comes several weeks after a team of Oregon School Boards Association consultants interviewed employees about campus conditions.

The college hired the team after allegations arose that Hansen had mismanaged college funds, the public safety department and personnel decisions. The president has denied the accusations, addressing the issues at a public meeting on May 5.

Her detractors were not satisfied, as all three employee groups at the college approved no-confidence votes in Hansen in June.

The board subsequently hired the OSBA team, which visited the college on Aug. 4, 5, 18 and 19.

Following the last Southwestern board meeting, Chairman Lonny Anderson said he expected to have a report from the OSBA team by Sept. 1.

Rick Osborn, director of communications at the college and speaking on behalf of Hansen and the board, declined to comment on the meeting.

“The executive session is designed to be a discussion between the consultation team and the board and it would be premature to comment on it beforehand,” he said.

The meeting is set for 2 p.m. in  Tioga Hall’s room 505 on the campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
