Setting sail

It is the last weekend for Bandon Playhouse’s “Pirates of Penzance” at the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. S.W..

The show is at 7:30 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at Bandon True Value Hardware, Bandon Mercantile, and Winter River Books.

Camilla’s last night

Tonight is the last night for “Recipe for Disaster, or Camilla’s Culinary Quandary” at the Sawdust Theater in Coquille.

It has been part of the theater’s 42nd season. The show is written by Cindy Robnett and Edna Cotner and is directed by Cotner and Marcella Russell. Olios are directed by Robnett and Lynda Poe.

The play is based on the life of Camilla Rietman, who donated to the theater and a variety of institutions in Coquille and Oregon.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12.50.

Music

Fiery sound

The Hot Tamales, a fiery trio of female musicians, will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Wanda’s Food & Beverage House, 740 KoosBay Blvd., Coos Bay. There is no cover. For more information, call 267-6293.

Backwood music

Unkle Nancy and the Family Jewels, an acoustic/Indie/folk band, will perform at 8 p.m. at The Broadway Theater, 226 S. Broadway, Coos Bay. The cover charge is $3.

Front man for Unkle Nancy is Joey Stewart, a 2000 Toledo High School graduate, who is accompanied by Ethan Zirin Brown, Bunny, Yoko Silk, and Tiffany Nickles. Stewart describes his music as Urban Americana — country backwoods music that infuses city blues and hip-hop.

The It’s About Time Big Band will perform at Salmon Room West, The Mill

Dance

Sand moves

The Beachcombers Square Dance Club of Port Orford will host its annual Battle Rock Dance Weekend Friday through Monday.

Dancers are expected from all over Oregon and several western states.  Featured caller for the dances will be Denny Lantz of Medford, and round dance cuers will be Donna Hiserote of Coos Bay. and Dave Cooper of Prineville.

At 11 a.m., dancers will converge on the beach for an hour of dancing in the surf at Battle Rock state park.

Dancing will continue at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Sunday nights, with the rounds being cued by Dave at the Beachcombers Cove, two miles north of Port Orford on Nicholson Drive.

 The club will have a fundraiser breakfast at the Cove from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, featuring ham, eggs and all-you-can-eat pancakes.

The costs is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Grange dance

A dance will be held at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South in Bandon. A lesson will be held at 7:30 p.m. and the dance will start at 8. Wear casual clothing.

Singles and couples are welcome.
