South Coast readers often have different preferences in reading material than those in other parts of the state and United States. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Books By the Bay in North Bend, according to owner Trish Price:

“The Gargoyle” by Andrew Davidson is the debut book that has the book world abuzz!

“Brida,” Paulo Coelho’s sequel to “The Alchemist,” is thought-provoking.

“The Monster of Florence: A True Story” by Douglas Preston with Mario Spezi presents this gripping account of their investigation into a 30-year old Florentian serial murder “cold case.”

“The Mercy Watson” children’s series about an inquisitive pig by Kate DiCamillo has been entertaining kids this summer.

Brunonia Barry’s “The Lace Reader” is the strange, mysterious tale of a woman who returns to Salem, Mass., to investigate her aunt’s drowning. You never quite trust the narrator as you discover her own mysteries as well.
