CASA to hold open house

Thursday, August 28, 2008 |
Court Appointed Special Advocate program of Coos County will host an open house on the CASA program and how interested volunteers can help local children, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Colette’s, 322a Broadway Ave., North Bend. This is the first time CASA will host an open house event to help provide additional information for the community, potential volunteers and others, on this program.
CASA of Coos County, an Oregon Coast Community Action program, works to provide trained volunteers who represent the needs and provide support to vulnerable, neglected or abused children in court. Program director Twila Veysey hopes to expand the CASA volunteer force in the region, as CASA volunteers serve less than half of the children in need.
CASA volunteers in Coos County work to advocate for 140 local children. Community Action and CASA are developing new training opportunities for new CASA volunteers. These new opportunities will include an evening training class this fall, and other opportunities.
For more information on the open house or on becoming a CASA volunteer, can call 396-1074.
