Battle Rock Dance

The Beachcombers Square Dance Club of Port Orford will host its annual Battle Rock Dance Weekend Friday through Monday. 

Dancers are expected from all over the west.  Featured caller for the dances will be Denny Lantz of Medford, and round dance cuers will be Donna Hiserote of Coos Bay and Dave Cooper of Prineville.

 Hiserote and Lantz will kick off the weekend with a casual dance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Beachcombers Cove, two miles north of Port Orford on Nicholson Drive. Dancing will continue at 7:30 Saturday and Sunday nights, with the rounds being cued by Dave.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, dancers will converge on the beach for an hour of dancing in the surf at Battle Rock State Park.

 The club will have a fundraiser breakfast at the Cove from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, featuring ham, eggs and all-you-can-eat pancakes. The costs $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Saturday

Agness extravaganza

Agness has combined all of its summer events into one Summer Extravaganza, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Yoga in the chair

Chair yoga will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Unity by the Bay, 2100 Union St., North Bend. Jevanna Toribio will lead participants in simple, easy exercises to relax and rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit, a press release said.

There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.  For more information, call Jevanna at 756-5790.

Middle Ages fun

Heavy fighter practice and Middle Ages social will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the gym of Ocean Crest Elementary School, at 1010 Allegany St. in Bandon.

The club studies the arts and sciences of the Western European time period from 400 AD to 1600 AD.

Information about the upcoming encampment at LaVerne Park, east of Coquille, on Oct. 3-5, will be available. For more information, call Robert MacManiman. 269-5003.

Preventing suicide

The Coos County Chapter of Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program is holding a community forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the South Coast Hospice Community and Education building, 1610 Thompson Road, Coos Bay.

The purpose of this forum is to explain how the Yellow Ribbon Program works, share information describing signs and symptoms of depression, suicide potential and intervention; and to recruit community members.

Unkle music

Unkle Nancy and the Family Jewels, an acoustic/Indie/folk band, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Broadway Theater, 226 S. Broadway, Coos Bay. The cover charge is $3.

Sunday

Life wisdom

A new class at Unity of Bandon will examine metaphysical meanings. The introductory Bible class, “Wisdom for a Lifetime,” will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sundays beginning this week.

The class will be offered on a love-offering basis.  Unity of Bandon is located one mile south of 11th Street on Highway 101.
