SALEM (AP) — Oregon’s graduating high school seniors scored above the national average on the mathematics, reading and writing portions of the SAT.

The College Board, which owns the test, said the 18,377 Oregon students who took the test had an average score of 523 in reading, 527 in math and 502 in writing. The national averages were 502, 515 and 494, respectively.

The statewide writing average was the same as last year’s average, while the reading and math scores were each a point higher.

The top score students can get on the SAT is a 2400.

Minority students in Oregon did not perform as well as the overall average. African-American Oregon students fared most poorly, averaging just 452 in reading, 438 in math and a 436 in writing.
