Blame DeFazio on gas hikes, economy

I was outraged by Rep. DeFazio’s recent condescending comments and utter inflexibility on energy exploration in our own country. He and his Democratic colleages choose to go on vacation in August rather than voting to lift the offshore drilling moratorium that we so desperately need.

Despite the fact that we have more oil than Saudi Arabia, not to mention our abundant natural gas, uranium and coal resources, he consistently sides with the extreme environmentalists and stands in the way of jobs, economic prosperity and our national security.

When Rep. Walden proposed drilling off the coast to pay for the safety net, DeFazio arrogantly scoffed, “I mean, come on. This is the agenda of the Republicans. Guess what? They’re not in charge anymore.” Every time I pull up to the pump and pay $4 dollars-plus for a gallon of gas I get mad all over again because this crisis could have been largely avoided with common sense planning.

Perhaps DeFazio’s unreasonable stance shouldn’t come as such a surprise. After all, his actions have essentially been the same for the last 22 years regarding logging. Although verbally he stakes out the middle ground, on his watch federal timber sales have declined 80 percent, he has deprived all of us of thousands of good jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars that could have been used for education, roads, public safety, etc.

I realize that DeFazio is not solely responsible, but, time and again, he and his party have voted against drilling in Anwar, blocked new refineries, stymied nuclear power, sought to remove hydroelectric dams, etc. We simply can’t afford DeFazio and his fanatic environmental ideas. But, if you like crippling high gas prices, more layoffs and a declining America, keep voting for DeFazio.

If the republicans believe SO strongly in John McCain, then why is it that the Republican Office in the Pony Village Mall is "NEVER" open?

More oil than Saudi Arabia?

One lie makes your entire point of view suspect.
The facts will hold up an opinion, a lie will make every else you say suspect.

I for one like the higher gas prices, it lets me laugh out loud at all the drivers out there in the big trucks with the big tires spending 200.00 a week on gas while driving back and forth to those high paying jobs we have too much of!

Go ahead! Look at Project Censored.
These ten big media organizations are the main source of news for most Americans. Their corporate ties require us to continually scrutinize the quality of their news for bias. Disney owns ABC so we wonder how the board of Disney reacts to negative news about their board of directors friends such as Halliburton or Boeing. We see board members with connections to Ford, Kraft, and Kimberly-Clark who employ tens of thousands of Americans. Is it possible that the U.S. workforce receives only the corporate news private companies want them to hear? Do we collectively realize that working people in the U.S. have longer hours, lower pay and fewer benefits than their foreign counterparts? If these companies control the media, they control the dissemination of news turning the First Amendment on its head by protecting corporate interests over people.

A typical republican blaming the democrats for the shape this country is in. Look how the republicans screwed up the country the last 8 years. We don't need any more of that B.S. Vote for Barack Obama, because it is time for a change in this country. McCain will only give the same of the last 8 years.

Project much?
Blaming a dem for high gas prices when this Country has been ruled by two oil men for the last 8 years?

I am speechless.
But thats better than clueless.

Jeff, a very well written letter and so very true. There truly is no registered democrat that has any business or right complaining about high gasoline prices. Blame in a sagging U.S. economy sits right in the lap of the democrats; the party that refuses to drill, mine, harvest, cut, or cultivate. Democrats believe that we should all have government jobs and live in the city...

Jeff, he scoffed because it's a scam by our oil boys in charge. I hear stories from drillers across the country. Wy. "We drilled across the state and capped half of the wells". Same in new mexico. A driller from PA said he "personally knows of 1,000 capped gas wells".
DeFazio knows the inside of this issue more than most of us. He's looking out for us.
Try to listen to progressive radio talk/news shows. Their only agenda is to teach us important, verified facts that are important to the middle class.
I'm ready for oil addiction rehab. Aren't you?

thr repubs had years wrote on Aug 26, 2008 5:28 PM:

Up until 18 months ago, the Republicans were in total control of this country's lawmaking structure. If drilling is so important then:

- Why is it that it was only 2 months ago that Bush 43 thought it was immportant to lift the offshore ban enacted by his dad?

- Why didn't the Repubs think it was important before this summer?

- Why didn't the Repubs go ahead and sign the bill for drilling that was presented by the Dems? The answer is that the bill would've eliminated some of the tax breaks that have allowed Big Oil to reap the biggest profits in history. That doesn't speak to the importance of finding new sources of oil.

The only thing that can be read from that is that the Repubs think that Oil profits are more important than energy independence and national security.

Par for the course.
