An early morning fire destroyed a well-known Winchester Bay business.
At about 1:59 a.m., firefighters were awaken to a report of black smoke coming from the Adrenaline Junkies Restaurant and Bar, 210 Eighth St., according to the Reedsport police log. Flames were shooting out of the restaurant, formerly known as the Oasis, when firefighters arrived, said Winchester Bay Fire Chief Scott Anderson.
The restaurant and bar suffered extensive fire damage. The damage was apparent this morning. The entire roof was blackened and the windows were broken out. One fire truck remained at the building, although the fire didn’t appear to be smoldering. The Winchester Bay firefighters had been there all night and appeared tired. Fire hoses still were laid out between the truck and the building.
Anderson said by the time firefighters from Winchester Bay, Reedsport and Gardiner started the initial attack on the fire overnight, flames were breaking through the roof.
Winchester called in firefighters from Lakeside and North Bend to assist. About 35 firefighters, with 11 fire engines, three rescue vehicles and two command units fought the blaze, which was under control by 5 a.m.
Anderson said the restaurant will most likely be a total loss. The cause of the fire still is under investigation. An investigator from the state fire marshal’s office was at the scene by 9 a.m. today.
No further information was available by press time.
