Police arrest bicyclist in North Bend assault case

One man ended up in the hospital and another in jail, following an altercation Friday alongside Highway 101 in downtown North Bend.
According to a North Bend Police log, at 4:34 p.m., several 911 callers reported a man assaulted another man, leaving him in a ditch. The suspect then pedaled away on a bicycle on U.S. Highway 101 near the North Bend entrance sign.
Police arrested 36-year-old James Snellbaker, town unavailable, a short distance away, a North Bend dispatcher said.
According to the log, police charged Snellbaker with fourth-degree assault and a probation violation.
He was taken to Coos County jail, where he remained this morning without bail on the parole violation.
Joey Vandehey, 24, of Coos Bay, was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where he was treated and released.
