Tour a big boost for Reedsport club
Monday, August 25, 2008 | No comments posted.
The Reedsport Garden Club theme of gardens, artists and photographers was such a success.
We thank so many volunteers of the club for their time and refreshments — the Dunes Art Club, the Siuslaw Viewfinders from Florence, Gene Davenport and other homeowners of the Red Hawk Gardens, the Great Community Gardens with Sara Turner, Vista members and gardeners, a third bonus garden by Ross Livingston and the seven businesses that sold tickets.
A big thank you to the numerous garden walkers who came from Mapleton, Florence and in-between, down to Coos Bay and Coquille. Even people from California read it in the paper and came.
Garden clubs of Florence, North Bend, Coos Bay, Lakeside and Florence Herbal Enthusiasts all shared plants and conversations. The artists painted, while the photographers roamed for people and plants. Many questions were asked about plants, what they were, how to care for, when to water, my plant has this problem, etc., and answers were given. It was a team effort to help everyone.
This year, we decided to combine gardens, artists, photographers and children’s art and the Reedsport beautification projects of state Highway 38, the Triangle and Old Town planters to share. We called garden clubs, really made it something for everyone. Even children had a good time watching for frogs in Dinky Creek and birds constantly bringing food for their babies in the bird houses so close by. Children’s art was on display to promote young people in our community.
Again, thank you to everyone for such a colorful, informative, fun 2008 Reedsport Garden Club Art Walk. To have so many people from so many cities, artists, photographers and businesses to help sell tickets created new friendships and a great success of a project.
Thank you to all!
This annual Garden Club fundraiser provides primary dollars so the Reedsport Garden Club has money to promote and enhance the beauty of our city.
