Van thieves have left a senior at risk

On Tuesday night at about 11 p.m., my 1991 Ford Aerostar minivan was stolen from the driveway, 15 feet in front of us. The front door was open a crack and it was raining when we heard the van start up.

We ran outside but by then they were backing up. By the time we got the gate open and got to the driveway they were at the bottom of the hill, where they picked up another person. We called the police and they came out nearly an hour later. We filed a report, but they were pretty clear in telling us that there was nothing they could do. If it was pulled over for a traffic citation or if it was abandoned on the side of the road, then they would return it to us, but clearly not to expect them to look for it.

I bought this minivan several years ago for my daughter’s godmother, Sheryl, who has diabetes, as we wanted her to be able to get help at any time of the day or night. I am greatly distressed that there are people in our community who have come down to stealing from disabled or sick people. Sheryl’s home also was broken into a couple of weeks ago and the police simply told her that they would send her a report in the mail to fill out.  Sheryl is so scared to stay at home alone now that I have to take her home with me most nights and we have a gentleman staying on premises 24/7.

The minivan is a 1991 Ford Aerostar, two-toned blue/gray, license plate No. SDQ 546.  If anyone has any information regarding this minivan please contact the police or myself.
