Christian drama

The Covenant Players will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th St., North Bend, during the 5:30 p.m. Eucharist celebration today.

The group is an international repertory theater company. Three actors will perform a mini Christian drama. A free-will offering will be taken.

For more information, call 756-0633.

Pirates on stage

Bandon Playhouse will perform the popular musical “The Pirates of Penzance” at the Sprague Community Theater  tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The show is directed by Neville Cordell and Kerry Oxford, who also directed the 2007 Little Theatre on the Bay production of “The Mikado.”

The play is set to the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan and the antic humor of W. W. Gilbert. “Pirates” takes place on the rocky shore of Cornwall, England, a winsome site, not unlike the rugged Oregon coast, a press release said.

Tickets are available at Bandon True Value Hardware, Bandon Mercantile and Winter River Books.

Camilla’s quandary

“Recipe for Disaster, or Camilla’s Culinary Quandary” continues tonight at the Sawdust Theatre.

The show, which runs through Aug. 30, starts at 8 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $12.50.

The show is written by Cindy Robnett and Edna Cotner and directed by Cotner and Marcella Russell. The play is based on the life of Camilla Rietman, who donated to the theater to the community.

Comedy

Nutty skirmishes

The comedy “Power Short Shorts” will bring FoxWell Productions back to the Ellensburg Theater Company at 8 p.m. tonight in the Rogue Playhouse, 94196 Moore St., Gold Beach.

Power Short Shorts is a sparkling concoction of several short comic pieces weighing the wobbly balance of power between men and women.

Victoria Weller, Michael Fox and Sharon B. Bello engage in nutty skirmishes, such as a bureaucrat enjoying power over the public just a little too much, a stand-off among three bungling thugs and a psychic who’s always two minutes ahead of his girlfriend, a press release described.

Tickets cost $15.  For reservations and information, call (541) 247-4382 or (541) 247-5109.  For information about FoxWell, visit http://www.foxwellproductions.net.

Dance

Step in square

The next Sets in Order Square and Round Dance Clubdance is tonight. Coleeta Quigley will call, and Denise Harris will cue the rounds. Pre-rounds will begin at 7:30, with square dancing at 8, at the Coquille Community Center, 115 Birch St.
