Cheesy creationThe Coos County Extension Service Family Food Educator volunteers will be conducting a community workshop in August on making cheese.
On Saturday, a cheese making workshop on soft cheeses will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Myrtle Point Extension office, 631 Alder St. This class will offer basic cheese making.

Wines of the UmpquaAn afternoon of wine tasting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Court Independent Retirement, 3959 Sheridan Ave., North Bend.

Hot auctionThe Elkton Community Education Center will present its Hot Umpqua Nights Art Auction in conjunction with the opening of the second-annual Elkton Quilt show, Saturday at the ECEC site, 15850 Highway 38 West, Elkton.
The evening will begin with a reception at 4 p.m. hosted by the Elkton quilters.
Donated art works to be auctioned can be viewed from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Bidding starts at 6:30 p.m.
The quilt show, sponsored by River’s Edge Winery, will be open at the ECEC Greenhouse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. A donation of $2 will benefit the reconstruction of historic Fort Umpqua.

It will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Thursday.
Organizers plan to have clothing, school supplies and lunch supplies.
