The North Bend Booster Club will hold its annual picnic Thursday at Ferry Road Park, while the club’s first regular meeting will be a Civil War football preview that will include coaches for both the Bulldogs and Pirates.
The picnic Thursday starts at 6 p.m. and is open to all North Bend fans, not just Booster Club members. The club will provide hamburgers, drinks and tableware, while club members are asked to bring a potluck dish to share.
The club’s purpose is to raise funds to help the teams with travel expenses, new equipment, uniforms or other expenses.
The group holds its regular meetings at noon on Wednesdays at North Bend Lanes throughout the school year, with each meeting including coaches and athletes from various sports. All the team sports are represented one or more times during their seasons.
The first Wednesday meeting will be on Aug. 27 and include both new North Bend football coach Rick Taylor and Marshfield coach Kent Wigle. The teams open the season against each other at 7 p.m. on Aug. 29 at North Bend High School.
In the meeting next week, Taylor and Wigle will discuss their teams and talk about the upcoming season.
The no-host luncheon is open to all who wish to attend.
QB Club returns
The Marshfield Booster Club, meanwhile, is bringing back the Pirate Quarterback Club with Friday morning meetings on game days at the Coney Station in downtown Coos Bay.
The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. and include a Booster Club update from President Gino Harpold, a school sports update from athletic director Greg Mulkey, an update on past Marshfield players in college, and a discussion of that night’s game from Wigle. The final portion of the meeting will be a college preview with club members Steve Schneiderman and Terry Clinton promoting the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers, respectively.
All Marshfield fans are invited to attend the meetings.
A breakfast will be available for $10 and people are asked to RSVP by calling 290-9365 to provide an accurate meal count.
The first Quarterback Club meeting will be held on Aug. 29 in advance of the Civil War.
The club also will continue to hold its regular weekly meetings, which highlight teams and athletes, at noon on Thursdays at Abby’s Pizza.
