North Bend police officers arrested a Coos Bay man on charges including failure to register as a sex offender on Tuesday in North Bend.

According to a police log, at 2:01 p.m., officers took Nolan Stanfill, 27, into custody at Gino’s Pizza Inn, 1324 Virginia Ave. He was arrested on Coos County charges of failure to register as a sex offender, failure to appear on charges of third-degree rape and third-degree sex abuse and failure to appear on a charge of fourth-degree assault, and a Lincoln County warrant for a probation violation on a driving-under-the-influence of intoxicants charge.

Stanfill was taken to Coos County jail, where he remained this morning on  $66,500 bail.

As a teenager, I think sex offenders should be locked up and taken to jail for good. My parents worry all the time, and I know that when I eventually have kids, I will too.

hmmm....just wondering wrote on Aug 25, 2008 9:50 PM:

ok fine say whatever but if he is so innocent in these charges why not hire a lawyer and oh idk show up for court??? It says thats a reason this warrant was issued also failure to register if he is such an upstanding guy why does he keep breaking the law???

TO A FRIEND: I don't blame the parent for turning this creep into the law. I bet that HE also knew that she was under eithteen, if the truth be known.
As far as I am concerned, maybe the parent of the girl should step back and realized that if she had tought her daughter a fer morals, maybe none of this would have happened.

yep your right he was over 18 and the girl told him she was of age. Then her mom found out and put the charges against him.

hahaha I LOVED Tom's comment, hang a huge sign on their front yard, saying...HERE LIVES THE MISERABLE SEX OFFENDER!
I hope Nolan Stanfill will get at LEAST 10 years, hopefully more!!

WYRD and NB Resident are correct. Sex offenders get off easier even if their crimes, by their very nature, leave victims in their wake. Don't think that they get off easy? Then why is the bail for this guy $33,500 less than the bail for the transiant with marijuana?

The supervision of Parole and Probation in Coos Co is a joke. Look at the Director for crying out loud, isn't he the one that's married to a convicted drug offender and isn't he the one that had meth in his house when she got busted?? Shame on Coos Co Commissioners for continuing to employ him to supervise offenders just like him!

NB Resident wrote on Aug 20, 2008 8:27 PM:

Tom; There is a website that tells you where the perverts live. The Probation/Parole Department allows them to live near our local schools. Let them live next door to the PO's, or better yet move them all together in one area with their own kind...

Tom,

You lost your first post? I found it, you just posted it in the wrong place. The post made no sense, just sounds like some drunken ranting. By the way, did you know that loss of memory is a sign of marijuana use? Dude, do us all a favor and lay off it for awhile.

Here We Go Again wrote on Aug 20, 2008 7:55 PM:

I really don't know what this guys story is but from the charges it looks like it could be another example of someone who was convicted of consensual sex with a minor. I think child molesters and rapists should pay a heavy price for their crime and we must protect ourselves from these creeps. What I don't agree with is convicting teenagers of a crime for having sex.

In my grandparents time, if this were to happen, I imagine the families would have forced the young couple to marry.
Now, we just send the young man (usually) to jail. This is rather stupid and totally avoidable. Try this instead: Teach your children about the birds and the bees. Talk to them about your values and your expectations for them. Influence by example. If they make a mistake, make them accountable.

There, problem solved!

Tom, it did make it, you just posted it under the wrong article.. I wondered what a man getting into a car crash had to do with sex offenders.....

Wyrd wrote on Aug 20, 2008 7:20 PM:

And if it's their first or second offense know what they probably get? THREE DAYS. MAYBE.

NB Resident wrote on Aug 20, 2008 4:58 PM:

Great Job NBPD and the person who made the call to the NBPD! Why is Mr.Stanfill, (A SEX OFFENDER) allowed bail amount of any kind?

TOM wrote on Aug 20, 2008 3:34 PM:

My first commet didn't make it so here we go again. To me sex offenders should be required to wear a sign on the outside of their clothing stating
" I AM A CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER", Also whereever they live, they should be required to put up a large sign on the front of their building stating, "A CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER LIVES HERE". That way the honest citizen would not only know who they are, but where they live, AND be able to stay away from them. Personally, they should all be behind bars or on some deserted island forever.
