An art opening for local artist Curt Hitch will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Sept. 6, at the South Slough Interpretive Center, four miles south of Charleston on Seven Devils Road.

Hitch will be on hand to meet visitors and discuss his pieces. Refreshments will be served.

Born in Hastings, Neb., but relocated to Bremerton, Wash., Hitch developed an interest in drawing and painting at an early age.

He set-up a studio in the attic at 14 and became interested in watercolors during high school. The classes he took included art, history, drawing, life classes, oil painting and lettering.

Hitch went on to teach painting. While teaching in Port Townsend, he sold many of his paintings. He now teaches several different artistic mediums including watercolor, drawing, pastel and oil painting.

He enjoys color and is considered to be a “colorist” imparting emotion into all of his works, a press release said.

Hitch is working on several different styles of 3-D creations. These creations are miniature environments, assemblages, collages and 3-D wall hangings.

He experiments in various aspects of art forms and styles with each new inspiration, a press release said.
