ATV accidents

A 62-year-old Fairview, Wash., man was injured in an all-terrain-vehicle accident Saturday in Winchester Bay.
A 911 caller requested medical assistance at 5:10 p.m. in the parking lot at Sand Camp No. 34, where John Schulz had rolled his ATV down a sand dune at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, according to the Reedsport police log. An ambulance, Rescue 7 and Winchester Bay Quick Response Team members responded. Schulz lost consciousness several times prior to rescuers arriving, however, he refused to go to the hospital, according to Dwes Hutson, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. No further information was available at press time.
A 32-year-old Portland woman was injured in an all-terrain-vehicle accident Sunday in Winchester Bay.
According to a Douglas County Sheriff’s press release, at about 10:33 a.m., a 911 caller reported the accident at the Third Beach at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Stephanie Ewing, while traveling down a sand dune, hit a small grassy knob and was thrown off her ATV, which then rolled on top of her, the release said.
An ambulance took Ewing to Reedsport’s Lower Umpqua Hospital, according to the release. No further information was available at press time.
