Steak fire sparks a one-acre blaze on North Bend lot

A brush fire burned about an acre of land Saturday, across from the Pony Village Mall in North Bend.
North Bend firefighters received a report of the blaze at about 4 p.m. on land known as the Troutman property. Twelve firefighters, two engines and one wildland engine came to the scene to put out the fire. It took about 2 minutes with an additional 20-minute mop-up, said Lt. John Lucero.
He said the fire was started by a transient who used a shopping cart to create an outdoor grill to cook a steak. Firefighters found the steak but not the chef at the site.
“The steak was still sitting right there,” Lucero said.
No one was injured, Lucero said. |
