Heat wave sizzles state over weekend

PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon sweltered under the third-straight day of near-record-breaking heat on Saturday but forecasters said a cooling trend began Sunday.
High temperatures of 100 degrees or more hit across the state, except in the Cascades and along the Oregon Coast.
Some of the hottest spots in the state Saturday were Medford at 106 and The Dalles at 109.
But temperatures fell just short of triple digits in Portland, where the high was 99 downtown and 98 at the international airport.
National Weather Service forecasters say the cooling trend will continue, with temperatures expected to drop into the 70s today. |
