PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — The Kitsap County sheriff’s office says a pilot killed in a private helicopter crash is believed to be 68-year-old Myron Aadland.

Deputy Scott Wilson said today that Aadland’s family had been notified of the crash, but authorities were still searching for Aadland’s identification in the wreckage.

Wilson says the body of the pilot was recovered after Sunday afternoon’s crash in the Olalla area. There was no fire. Wilson says Aadland owned the helicopter.

Wilson says the Kitsap County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy and make the official identification.

Wilson says Aadland took off from the Bremerton National Airport Sunday afternoon in a Robinson R-22 helicopter.

Wilson says authorities believe Aadland was flying to his house in Olalla where he had built a helicopter landing pad.
