Coos County Roller Girls to host Aug. 23 bout with Lava City club

The Coos County Roller Girls’ Rockin’ Roulettes will battle Lava City Roller Dolls’ Cinder Kittens in “Playground Punishment,” a roller derby home bout at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Set at the Sunset Middle School hockey rink, this high-energy competition also will include a canned food drive to support the South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action.
CCRG is the county’s first and only competitive roller derby league.
Playground Punishment is an all ages event and is open to the public. The rink is located at 245 S. Cammann St.

Hole-in-one
Gary Williams aced the 18th hole at Kentuck Golf Course on Sunday.
Williams used a hybrid club to ace the uphill 130-yard hole. It was his first hole-in-one in 42 years of golfing.
Punt, Pass & Kick
The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Marshfield High School.
The competition, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, is free for all boys and girls ages 8 to 15 as of Dec. 31 this year.
All competitors will punt, pass and kick the football for distance and accuracy. First-place finishers will advance to a sectional competition.
Pre-registration is encouraged at the Boys & Girls Club office, 3333 Walnut Ave., in Coos Bay. For more information, call the club’s sports line at 267-6573.
Pre Run for Kids
The Boys & Girls Club’s Pre Run for Kids will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, in downtown Coos Bay.
All boys and girls in grades 1 through 8 are eligible to participate in the 3-mile race.
The registration fee is $15 through Sept. 7 or $10 through the day of the race without a T-shirt.
The first three finishers in each age group will receive medals.
The race, sponsored by Pepsi Cola, BNT Promotional Products and Columbia Distributing Co., follows a 3-mile course in Coos Bay and is the day after the Prefontaine Memorial Run.
