This new law is nothing more than another financially penalizing burden on "the little man". I find it amusing that 5 years ago when I went to renew my license I was considered a U.S. citizen and a licensed driver in good standing for over 40 years. But today, if I was to renew my license, because my license is in my married name, I would have to pay 175.00 to the courts to obtain a copy of my divorce papers of more than 32 years, pay another 65.00 to obtain a certified copy of my birth certificate; and, let's not forget the ever increasing cost for renewing the drivers license ~ all to prove I am the same licensed driver I was 5 years ago. All I can say is between gasoline, increasing car repair costs, car insurance and now the cost to renew a drivers license~it is actually cheaper to take the taxi than it is to drive a car. Some one is benefiting from the new laws (financially) and it is not the public. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Hey at least Yellow Taxi will survive.

Am I wrong or did this guy say "the new policy is harder on older people, who’ve had more time to lose papers."? Are you absolutely kidding me?
I think the new requirements are great!
New ID law makes us less secure wrote on Aug 22, 2008 9:06 AM:
This new ID law will make us all more vulnerable to ID theft because all of our highly personal information will now be in one convenient database. Any clever hacker will know exactly where to go for a one-stop shop on our info.

Richie are we a little racist? If you actually look around most illegals work hard and do jobs no one else wants to do not get on food stamps and welfare,
also no one gets a free license. also if illegals get a license in their name honestly I could care less, however I am glad the DMV requires me to prove who I am as my husband was a victim of identity theft and trust me trying to prove it wasn't you is a lot harder than proving to the DMV it is you.

These new rules are rediculus, already proved who I am when I got the lisence the first time. Maybe if everyone just let there lisence expire. then where will D.M.V. get there revinue. with no money to run there office maybe they will rethink this plan.

i think the whole thing is discriminating to everyone... God made everyone equal... i dont care where your from, i think it is a hardship that i need to prove to them who i am, when i had to show that when i first got a license, i shouldnt have to do it everytime. if it is such a hassle, they need to put fingerprints on all licenses just like all the other states. wake up oregon. maybe i shouldnt have to keep my divorce papers just to prove to the dmv that i am who i am and my name is what it is do to a hardship divorce that i want to forget that the state of oregon needs to rub in my face for the rest of my life. thank you very much whoevers bright idea this was!!!

To Richie:
The Bush administration has refused to enforce a ban on hiring illegals and has failed to finish the border fence. I read that 800 miles of fence were mandated by Congress and only 370 miles are scheduled for completion. The Justice Department drafted a legal opinion in 2002 clarifying the right of state and local police to make arrests for violations of federal immigration law. This is vital, because the 700,000 state and local cops can serve as a force multiplier for federal authorities. But the Bush administration spiked this memo, keeping in effect a Clinton-era policy directive discouraging state and local use of immigration law.
So the Bush administration shirks its responsibility to us and we have the burden of this ridiculous ID law. It's wrong and ill-conceived.

"discirminate"
First off genius, it's discriminate. If you're going to use big words, please learn how to spell.
Secondly, it does NOT discriminate. It is sad this law had to be passed but lets be real for a moment: How many people in the State of Oregon hire illegals? How many have been hired in the Bay Area?
Why was the state allowed to hand out drivers licenses to illegals?
Wanna know what discrimination is?
It's when someone from another country can come here and get welfare, food stamps, SS benefits, and a free drivers license, all at taxpayers (you and me) expense....now THAT is discrimination against Oregonians and Americans.

If you think that is bad, Listen to this! I moved out to Minnesota three years ago. They told me to bring my Birth Certificate, and Adoption Papers. The guy at the front desk who reviews the papers told me to go and get a duplicate Adoption papers because the one I had was so old that the seal of the state did no longer was raised enough. I told him that it would be months before I would have access to that because you have to order that kind of thing. I went to the DAV and explained to them what was going on, and the next day I took my test, passed it and got an apoligy but it was not real. They just went through the motions because of the embarrasment they endured.

This new requirement is ridiculous! A waste of state funds and an added burden on everyone. All to police immigration - A JOB THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO DO!!!!!!!!
