Police say alcohol a factor in several area crashes

Coquille Tribal police arrested a 23-year-old woman this morning on a drunken-driving charge following a single-vehicle accident on Cape Arago Highway.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch near the intersection of Cape Arago and Pemberton Lane, at about 12:05 a.m., according to the Coos Bay Police log. The tribal officers arrested Jacquelyn Waggoner, of Coos Bay, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. She was taken to Coos County jail, where she was booked and later released on citation.

Coos Bay

Coos Bay police arrested a Coos Bay woman Tuesday following an accident on Salmon Avenue.

According to the Coos Bay Police log and Capt. Gary McCullough, a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim was moving down Salmon Avenue when it hit a 1991 Toyota. The Plymouth continued farther down the road before stopping in the 1000 block of Salmon at about 11:36 p.m.

Officers arrested the driver of the Plymouth, Katherine Goude, 20, on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and failure to perform the duties of a driver involved in an accident. She was taken to Coos County jail, where she was booked and later released on citation.

Fairview

Ambulance crews took a Fairview man to the hospital Saturday after a sport utility vehicle crashed on Fairview Road.

Deputies responded to milepost 11.5 and found a 1993 Mazda Navajo in an adjacent creek, at about 10:15 p.m., according to a Coos County Sheriff’s Office press release. The driver, Kerwin Handy, 55, was taken to Bay Area Hospital for treatment. After an investigation, deputies cited Handy in lieu of custody on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. According to a hospital spokeswoman, Handy was in fair condition this morning.

Three-car crash sends woman to hospital

A three-vehicle accident on Cape Arago Highway on Saturday sent a North Bend woman to the hospital.

At about 4:10 p.m., emergency personnel went to Cape Arago Highway near Pigeon Point to a report of a three-car crash involving a Nissan Altima driven by Catheryne R. Almadovar, 18, of North Bend; a 2007 Toyota driven by Stephen E. Bilalkowski, 26, of Hyde Park, Utah; and a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Beth Calengor, 55, of Smithfield, Utah, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s log.

Police didn’t know the cause of the accident, but said Almadovar was taken to Bay Area Hospital for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said the hospital had no record of treating her.

Arrest

Coquille police arrested a Coquille man Monday on a drug-related charge.

According to the Coquille Police Department press release, at about 10:29 p.m., officers arrested Steven Nicholson, 43, on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, at the intersection of state highways 42 and 42 South. They took him to Coos County jail, where he was booked and then released on his own recognizance.
