Coos Art Museum took home three foundation grants during July.

The grants to the downtown Coos Bay museum include: $1,500 from U.S. Bancorp Foundation, $2,000 from the C. Giles Hunt Charitable Trust and $5,000 from the Oregon Arts Commission (the grant from the Arts Commission is awarded but not yet received). Each of these grants is given for the general operating support of the museum, a press release said.

General operations grants are considered the most valuable sort of grant which an organization can receive. They allow a nonprofit organization to spend money where it is most needed.

Coos Art Museum was established in 1966. It occupies a historic 1936 Art Deco U.S. Federal Building and offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes and lectures. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Museum admission is $5 general, $2 students and seniors, and free to museum members.
