Q: What happened to the Timber Inn? Will it ever reopen? Why is it not up for sale?

A: The Coos Bay motel was taken over by the Oregon Pacific Banking Co. in June after its previous owners closed the business at the beginning of the year.

Oregon Pacific staff did not immediately return calls to the bank last week for an update. Coos County Commercial Appraiser Adam Colby said the foreclosure was completed June 9. On that note, he said his office has seen about one foreclosure a week over the past six months.

Leo and Donis Frare had owned the Timber Inn since 2003, having purchased it from Gordon and Elaine Joelson. Donis Frare told The World in January that the motel was closing because she and her husband were out of money. She also said her husband was in poor health and they wanted to focus on him getting better.

Good name for it "Super 8." Because that's how many people will be sleeping there every night.

Super 8? Too bad a nice local owned inn has to be bought out by some cheesey corporate crap motel. It would be nice to see something come in on par with the Mill's hotel as it seems there are enough wealthy tourists coming through the area. Hopefully it won't become an another eyesore.

The Timber Inn was purchased by an out of town company that owns and operates various types of motels and hotels (La Quinta, Comfort Inn, etc.). They stated their plans were to remodel the Timber Inn into a Super 8. They plan on tearing down the restaurant and bar and build a new lobby there and pool. This was the latest info directly from the company who purchased it.
