Lords of Avalon

The On Broadway Thespians have taken over the space at the former Area 51 site, across from Sears in Pony Village Mall, to present “King Arthur and the Lords of Avalon.” The dark epic drama is an adaptation penned by Bay Area native, Michael Gonzalez.

Young King Arthur seeks to unite the divided lands of Britain in hopes of forming Camelot, a country that serves and protects its people with equality at the heart.   

The show starts at 2 p.m. today and Sunday. Tickets are availalbe at the door for $10 on Saturday, $8 on Sunday. Tickets for children under 12 are $7 for all shows.

Still a quandary

The Sawdust Theatre in Coquille continues its 42nd season with “Recipe for Disaster, or Camilla’s Culinary Quandary.”

The show runs through Aug. 30. Performances are at 8 p.m. tonight and all Fridays in this month.  Tickets are $12.50.

Swinging

The South Coast Dance Association will feature an hour lesson in West Coast Swing at 7 p.m. tonight in the First United Methodist Church’s hall, 123 Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay. Open dancing until 9:30 p.m. will follow the lessons.

The event is open to the public. The cost is $3 for members and students; $6 for non-members.

Steps in square

Sets in Order Square and Round Dance Club will dance tonight at the Coquille Community Center, 115 N. Birch.

Dale Roberson will be the caller and Denise Harris will cue the rounds. Pre-rounds will begin at 7:30 p.m., with Square dancing at 8.

Music

Country jam

“August Nights Country Jam,” a Little Theatre on the Bay benefit show, will be at 8 p.m. tonight at the theater, 2100 Sherman Ave., North Bend. The one-night concert will feature the Opry Band, including Dave Ford, Dwain Rayburn, Bill Berrian and newcomer Danny Richardson.

Other performers will include Country Showdown veteran and 2007 Bay Area Teen Idol Clint Guevara, 2008 Country Showdown winner Suzanne Randle and Opry performers Kelly Coolen and Misty Speakman.

The box office and doors open at 7; all tickets are a $10 minimum donation.

Funky sound

HookahStew, a funk/reggae/rock band, will perform at 9 p.m. tonight, at Warehouse 101 at the Mill Casino-Hotel, 3201 Tremont Ave., North Bend.
