Mutt Strutt

The first annual Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Mutt Strut will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Southwestern Oregon Community College parking lot No. 1, next to Oregon Coast Culinary Institute.

Contests include pet and owner look-alike, best dressed mutt, just strutting and pet tricks.

The Furry Friends Therapy Dogs will have puppy licks and a petting pen.

The entry fee is $7 per contest, or $25 for all four. General admission for observers is $2.

All proceeds will benefit RSVP programs and Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc.

Sunday

Singing along

The next Second Sunday Sing Along will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Colette’s, 3229 Broadway Ave., North Bend.  Songbooks are provided.

Monday

Swimming for the gold

The Mingus Park Pool competitive swimming will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Gold Coast Swim Team coach Kathe Stufflebean will be the instructor.

Enrollment is limited to 40 swimmers. They will be divided into novice and advanced.

Topics covered will include the four competitive strokes and starts and turns. There will be a swim meet with awards on the last day.

The cost is $50; $40 for guppies.

Tuesday

Life stories

An autobiographical writing class will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesdays, Aug. 12, 19, 26, and Sept. 2, 9 and 16, at Evergreen Court at Baycrest Village, 3959 Sheridan Ave., North Bend.

The class is designed for senior citizens who want to write their life stories down.

Annis Cassells — a life coach, speaker, writer and teacher — will provide topics, lessons and guidance.

Sea Breeze Harmony Chorus will hold an open house at 6:30 p.m.  Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Coos Bay First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd.

Thursday

Low tide media

Coos Art Museum will feature “Low Tide on the Oregon Coast,” an exhibition of mixed media sculpture by Angela Haseltine Pozzi, Thursday through Sept. 20.  

Pozzi’s exhibition will be shown in the Uno E. Richter Atrium Gallery.

Examples of Pozzi’s art can be seen at her Web site, http://www.seathingsart.com/.

The exhibition will open with an artist’s reception will coincide with the Bay Area Art Walk, held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday.

Coos Art Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
