Sept. tax vote planned

Friday, August 08, 2008 |
Voters in the Millicoma River Park and Recreation District will weigh in on a $125,000 local option tax to maintain the area’s community building on Sept. 26.
The summary of the local option tax filed with the Coos County Elections Office said the Community Building of the Millicoma River Park and Recreation District is in need of repairs and maintenance. The tax would pay for that work.
Property owners in the district would pay an estimated 71 cents per $1,000 of assessed value on property, if the tax passes. At least a 50 percent turnout is needed for the local option to pass.
Ballots will be mailed to all active, registered voters residing in the Millicoma River Park and Recreation District on Friday, August 29, for the Sept. 26 special election. Voters should receive ballots between Sept. 2-5.
Military, overseas and out-of-state ballots will be mailed earlier. If voters have not received their ballot by Monday, Sept. 8, they should contact the Coos County Election’s office.
Ballots are not forwarded by the post office, so if a voter has moved or changed a mailing address, they must complete a new registration form to update their address. The last day for new registrations before this election is Aug. 26.
