New schedules for Boys & Girls Club available

The 2008-2009 Activities Schedule for sports seasons at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon is available.

Schedules are available at the club office, 3333 Walnut Ave., in Coos Bay, and also at the Mingus Park and North Bend pools, Coos Bay and North Bend libraries, North Bend Lanes, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Books by the Bay, Video & More and Blockbuster Video.

Procedures have changed for the new year. All players will be placed on teams once all fees have been paid.

Fall sports registration



Fall soccer and flag football registration sessions have been scheduled for Aug. 5-7 and Aug. 12-14 at the Boys & Girls Club.

Registration forms will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on those days.

The fee for each activity is $55 with a current club membership.

Players will not be placed on a team or allowed to practice until all fees have been paid.

Punt, Pass & Kick



The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Marshfield High School.

The competition, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, is free for all boys and girls ages 8 to 15 as of Dec. 31 this year.

All competitors will punt, pass and kick the football for distance and accuracy. First-place finishers will advance to a sectional competition.

Pre-registration is encouraged at the Boys & Girls Club office, 3333 Walnut Ave., in Coos Bay. For more information, call the club’s sports line at 267-6573.

Pre Run for Kids



The Boys & Girls Club’s Pre Run for Kids will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, in downtown Coos Bay.

All boys and girls in grades 1 through 8 are eligible to participate in the 3-mile race.

The registration fee is $15 through Sept. 7 or $10 through the day of the race without a T-shirt.

The first three finishers in each age group will receive medals.

The race, sponsored by Pepsi Cola, BNT Promotional Products and Columbia Distributing Company, follows a 3-mile course in Coos Bay and is the day after the Prefontaine Memorial Run.
