ATV crashes send two to Reedsport hospital

A Washington boy was hurt Wednesday in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Winchester Bay.
At about 3:40 p.m., emergency personnel went to 242 Discovery Point Lane after someone reported an ATV crash on the dunes, Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Marshall said. Anthony Johansen, 15, of Everson, Wash., was riding north on the sand near Winchester Bay when he rode off a short dune he didn’t see and crashed, police said.
Anthony complained of pain in his collarbone and was taken to Lower Umpqua Hospital, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
A mere 15 minutes later a California man was injured in another ATV accident on the dunes near Winchester Bay.
At about 3:55 p.m., emergency personnel responded to 825 Lighthouse Road to a report of an ATV accident with injuries, Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Marshall said.
Matthew Tickner, 18, of Paradise, Calif., was jumping dunes with friends when after his last jump, his ATV rolled over on him, causing a severe laceration to his right leg, police said.
Tickner was taken to Lower Umpqua Hospital, where he as treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
