Coast Guard rescues boater after dinghy capsizes in WB

Thursday, August 07, 2008 |
There’s no better place to capsize than right in front of Coast Guard rescuers.
That was the case Wednesday for one unlucky — or lucky — man in Winchester Bay.
At about 3:30 p.m., someone called Douglas County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers to report a boat had capsized in the bay. A man was clinging to it in the marina near 700 Marina Way, according to the sheriff’s log.
The 8-foot-long dinghy capsized right in front of the Coast Guard’s station, so a boat crew was able to respond quickly, said the agency’s Civilian Search & Rescue Controller Kevin St. Pierre, who is based out of North Bend.
The agency called in an ambulance to the docks near the station. St. Pierre said the unidentified man declined medical help.
