COOS BAY — It isn’t official yet, but there is a good chance there will be a contested race this fall for the four seats on the Coos Bay City Council.

One incubment who has taken out an application is councilor John Muenchrath, who will complete his first term in office this fall. Despite the move, the Coos Bay urologist hasn’t committed to the race.

The two certainties in the race are councilors Gene Melton and Jon Eck. Both turned in papers, according to Finance Director Janell Howard. She said she has had four more people pick up candidate packets, including Joanie Johnson, Howard Forte, David Engholm and Ken Scott.

Johnson, Forte and Engholm said they plan to run for a seat on the council. Scott could not be reached for comment.
