Curry County Fair organizers saw a jump in attendance and revenues this year, and they credit some of the increase to repeat visitors.

“Paid attendance is up 21 percent, carnival revenue is up 19 percent and fair food sales doubled,” said Ron Crook, the fair’s events manager, in a press release.

The fair, held July 24-27, benefited from unseasonably calm, sunny weather.

“Because of the gas prices of more than $4 a gallon, there had been some concern about the ability of people to travel from the two ends of the county to participate in the annual community ... event,” Crook said.

The gas-price situation seemed to benefit the county fair in Gold Beach, where families capitalized on the one-stop variety of entertainment.

“Having carnival armbands every day of fair proved to be very popular,” he added. “And people said before and after the fair that that was one more reason to come back to the fair for another day.”
