Pickling and cheese making workshops

The Coos County Extension Service Family Food Educator volunteers will be conducting two community workshops in August covering pickling and making cheese.

On Saturday, volunteers will host a preservation class on making pickles, sauerkraut and flavored vinegars. This workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Myrtle Point Extension office, 631 Alder St. Bring a small, decorative jar for vinegar so you can take home a sample.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, a second cheese making workshop on soft cheeses will be held at the Myrtle Point Extension office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This second class will offer the same basic cheese making as the first, with some updates as well as ideas for new flavors.

Pre-registration is encouraged and class size is limited. A $7 fee is collected to pay for printed materials and class supplies. For more information on the dates and times of the September and October workshops, call the Coos County OSU Extension Office, 572-5263 or (800) 730-4978.
