Toby Ridenour talks with North Bend Police Sgt. Buddy Young and North Bend firefighter John Lucero and Fire Chief Scott Graham following a house fire at 2715 11th St. in North Bend on Sunday.

According to Lt. John Lucero, 18 firefighters, three engines, a ladder truck and two staff vehicles responded to the address at 10:46 a.m. after a fire began in one of the bedrooms at the house. The firefighters were on the scene in three minutes and the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes.

At least four people were in the house at the time, including minors. The family called the American Red Cross and obtained lodging for two nights.

“It was pretty much contained to one bedroom, although there was pretty extensive smoke damage throughout the whole house,” Lucero said.

Graham said a candle started the blaze. “Never, ever leave candles unattended,” Graham said. Several kids were in the house when it caught fire, but nobody was hurt.

“We were watching a movie and the smoke alarm went off. I tried putting it out, but it was too big by the time I got there,” Ridenour said.-World Photo by Alex Powers
