Pacific Cove Humane Society is grateful to all those who turned out to support our first fun walk for pets and people, “A Walk on the Tame Side,” on June 28 at Mingus Park in Coos Bay. Sunny skies, pet-centered demonstrations and activities, and plenty of lively dogs added up to an entertaining and successful event.

Our thanks go to the many animal lovers who benefited our goal of a new animal welfare center by joining the walk or with their pledges to individual walkers. Prizes went to the walkers who collected the most in pledges: Laurie Knutson-Sharp, Sarah Nix and Derith Mottershaw. For those 18 and younger, the winners were Mary Coleman and Makenzie Marineau.

We also want to thank our event sponsors: The Wave, Verger Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, Reese Electric, Oregon First Community Credit Union, Mike and Linda Newman, Jim and Audrey Albaugh and Huggins Insurance.

We appreciate the demonstrators who donated their valuable time and skills: Tanya Sigloh, Think PAWsitive Dog Training, dog agility; Tere Branson, Three Branches Clinic, dog massage; Coos Bay Police K-9 Unit with Officer Mike Shaffer, arranged by Sgt. Chris Chapanar; Kasey Dixson, 4-H Petting Zoo, arranged by Elissa Wells; and these additional participants: Jill Stockford, Pet Portraits; Craig Ford, Healthy Pet Net; Chuck Ladig, Chuck’s Hot Dogs; Juliet Klien and Jessica Fellows, The Portrait Place; and Kate Groth, Two Ways & a Wiggle LLC.

Thank you for prizes, gifts and services donated by: Loanne Lark, South Coast Education Services District, Sharilyn Gipson’s Kettle Korn, John Fletcher, Trudy Lyne, Alison’s Pet Palace, Hanson-Meekins Veterinary Hospital, The Dunes Gifts, Morgan Veterinary Clinic, Books by the Bay, Happy Tails Grooming, Chuck’s Seafood, Kinnee’s Gifts, Lynn Yochum, Mini Pet-Mart, The Pottery Co., Ocean Blvd. Veterinary Hospital, Wal-Mart, Dutch Bros. Coffee, Cash & Carry and Albertsons Foods.

We are also grateful to the city of Coos Bay and to KDOCK, The Wave and The World for getting the news out, and to the wonderful volunteers who brought it all together. Our community is generous and caring and we appreciate all that you have done, and continue to do to help Pacific Cove Humane Society fulfill our mission.
