The Oregon Cultural Trust has awarded the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians a $5,077, as part of more than $1.65 million in grants that benefit cultural nonprofit organizations.

This year’s grants focus on historical projects in relation to the 150th anniversary of Oregon’s statehood, said Norm Smith, chairman of the Cultural Trust Board of Directors, in a press release.

Through tribal coalitions, other money going to projects on the South Coast totaled $10,472 in Coos County, $6,864 in Curry and $14,085 in Douglas County.
