Bay Area to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday

Neighborhoods throughout the city of North Bend and Coos Bay are asked to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 25th-annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, sponsored by the national Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the North Bend and Coos Bay police departments.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, people are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police at the Ferry Road Park in North Bend. The event will include a cook out, live music, cakewalk, youth activities and much more.

Ferry Road Park is located off of Sherman Avenue on Ferry Road, near the McCullough Bridge.

National Nigh Out is designed to:

* Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

* Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts;

* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and

* To send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
