Coast Guard lends a hand

With help from U.S. Coast Guard operations specialist Brian Koerber, right, Lt. Jason Morgan drives screws into sheets of drywall at a Habitat for Humanity house on Saturday. Sixteen volunteers from The Coast Guard’s North Bend Group Air Station helped hang more than 1,100 square feet of drywall Saturday. The house’s future owner, Nemesia Chouinard, and her boyfriend, Fernando Irineo, were impressed. “It’s been going along really fast,” Chouinard said.
According to Habitat’s executive director, Kathy Kebler, the group always is looking for volunteers. “It was really nice of the Coast Guard to call and help. We want the community get involved in building these houses.”
