Seeing the shore

Explore the Shore  will visit the tideflats near Charleston from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

 Participants can get a first hand look at a variety of creatures and plants that thrive in the water where rivers meet the sea, the estuary. Participants should meet at the Charleston Visitor Center. The cost is $1 per person.

 Registration is required for all programs. For more information and to register, call 888-5558. South Slough Interpretive Center is four miles south of Charleston on Seven Devils Road.

Having lunch

Coos Bay/North Bend Christian Women's Connection will host “Let’s do Lunch” from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, Coos Bay. Cost is $12, inclusive.

Guest speaker will be FayeMarie Miller of Clatskanie. Paulette Woodard of Coos Bay will talk about dahlias.

Famous stallions

Tickets for the “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions tour are on sale now. The tour will be at the Event Center on the Beach in Gold Beach at 7:30 p.m.  Thursday.

 Regular admission tickets are $22.50 each and $20.50 for those 12 and under or 60 and over.  Tickets are available at McKay’s Market in Gold Beach, by calling (800) 882-8258 and at Tickets.com.

This weekend

Weekend at the slough

The South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is offering two free programs this weekend.

The Explore Your Estuary Hike will explore marshes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants will help collect observations and data.

Common Ground, a film about Oregon’s marine heritage, was recently updated to include the marine reserve nomination process happening in Oregon. The 15-minute video will show at 1 and 3 p.m.  Sunday South Slough auditorium.

Registration is required for all programs. For more information and to register, call 888-5558. South Slough Interpretive Center is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily during the summer.

Artist reception

SAGE Gallery announces the opening of “In the Wild,” oil paintings by Leslie Hengen. The public is invited to a reception for the artist from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 390 First St. SW in the old Coast Guard building.
