The Treasures of Allegany Tour will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.
The tour will feature the rural area’s history, gardens, and unique homes. Highlights include a log house made by hand, a fish hatchery, interpretative center, experimental vineyard, and several historical stops, including the a ferry boat crossing, the former Allegany school and the cemetery.
Tour guests can go to each stop or pick the ones they want to see. Tour tickets cost $5 and are available at the Allegany Country Market and Deli, 10592 state Highway 241, Coos River Highway. Proceeds will help pay for a new roof on the Millicoma River Parks and Recreation Center.
Art in the garden
The Reedsport Garden Club is hosting the 2008 Art Walk at two locations this year.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at at Red Hawk Gardens, 1413 Hawthorne Ave. No. 19, Umpqua Mobile Villa and at The Great Community Gardens, 2670 Longwood Dr.
Tickets are $5 per person.
The Red Hawk Gardens has more than 500 feet of sea-drift landscaped bank and garden areas, more than 700 species of plants, bushes and shrubs.
The Dunes Art Club of Reedsport members will be painting on site.
At The Great Community Garden, children’s art will be on display.
The exhibit of Old Towne Merchants Association hanging baskets and a demonstration on how to plant and what to plant will be shared.
The Garden Club table of beautification projects, future projects, parade float and ideas will be discussed.
There will be a shuttle from Safeway to Red Hawk Gardens and parking will be available at Les Schwab Tire Center.
Proceeds from the Garden Art Walk will go to the Reedsport Garden Club for beautification projects.
Tickets can be bought in advance in Reedsport at Wild by Nature, Reedsport Pharmacy, Umpqua Bank, Rochon’s Appliance and Ace Hardware; in Coos Bay at Coos Grange Supply, 1085 S. Second; and in Florence at Honeyman Nursery, 85089 Highway 101 South.
