Since the President dropped the Executive Moratorium and Congress started serious discussion about oil prices, the price of oil has dropped dramatically.
If the Democrats would allow Republican amendments that support drilling you would see both parties support it and the price of oil would drop to a more realistic price, resulting in lower prices at the pump.

Can't we demand that the oil companies un cap the tens of thousands of our wells before we drill and cap more? Prices are being manipulated under bush. Who could question that? People. We need you to seek the truth before you let them enslave us more.

Bush Banned Offshore Exploration wrote on Aug 12, 2008 8:31 AM:
Bush 41, George H. W. Bush banned offshore oil exploration in 1990. It was president Bill Clinton that opened the Naval Petroleum Reserve with 13.4 billion KNOWN barrels of oil to the oil industry. They drilled 25 wells and capped them.
That Bush 41 was a real radical environmentalist!

radical environmentalists.....ones that would never consider any development or use of natural resources. People seem to think that development is unchecked and not watched. I can tell you from personal experience that the oil industry and their practices in drilling and the effects of those practices as it relates to the environment is CLOSELY monitored. Radical environmentalists have shut down every single opportunity for the Bay Area to grow economically....from lumber to fishing to mining to LNG. The environment can be protected and natural resources utilized safely yet those radicals would have you believe it is not possible. Wrong.

Paul,
It's those kooks in the US Government that are reporting refinery capacity running pretty steady at about 85%. They, in turn, get their info from Big Oil.

There's your evidence. It's pretty easy to find other sources of this info, also.

Jim, I labeled both parties elitists..because that's what they are.. Obama in his million dollar home and McCain with 500 dollar loafers.. Not one candidate truly cares about you.. ..And I think pretty much everyone anymore is considered an environmentalist.. I mean.. You like clean air, clean water and I'm sure you enjoy the forest.. Well what's left of it that is..

On 8-4-08 a statement was made that the oil companies were holding back refineries capacity. Where? Who? When? The left-wing kooks make these claims but there is no evidence to back up their lies.
Jim wrote on Aug 8, 2008 7:03 AM:
yes....lots of leases...but not much OIL there...it isnt everywhere. Also, the reason we don't have refineries is because of leftist environmental wackos. And I had to laff at submedia and the whole "elitist" comment. Who do you think runs the democratic party? elitists! Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, et all havent had to worry a single day where their next meal is coming from. Yeah..they are in touch. Some of you folks need to be.

No Choice,
You nailed it! Finally someone speaks words of wisdom! If you truly think that anyone who lives in a million dollar plus home is going to care about all of the poor (which is 60% of Coos County) Then you need to lay off the kool aid.. It's time to elect politicians that come from the common people, Not corporate elitists who will just continute to sell our public lands to timber companies and our oceans off to Oil companies (who will NEVER pass on their profits to you!)

I do think Americans are going to be "hoodwinked and bamboozled", because BOTH parties are reps for the corporate elite. Both are CFR members, both are bought and paid for by the corporate banking interests. Wake up, Carters campaign was Change also, and what happened then? Nothing. What will happen now? Nothing. The rich will continue to get richer and the middle class will continue to decline into poverty. But as long was we have American Idol to watch, and the tv media to trust, I guess it will all be ok. Go back to sleep.

Check your Facts wrote on Aug 5, 2008 6:55 AM:
To Story Time...maybe you should check out the facts about the Naval Petroleum Reserve....this is NOT ANWR. OIL COMPANIES ALREADY HAVE IT...IT'S IN ALASKA... 13 billion KNOWN barrels of oil underground....only 25 well drilled and then capped.
WHY?...and we are supposed to give them ANWR too. For what?
Story time wrote on Aug 4, 2008 8:44 PM:
Hey Fool, you must be reading the
Daily Kos again, or maybe Geo Soros' or Ariana Huffinton's Socialist agenda papers.
It is well documented that when Republicans sent then-President Bill Clinton a bill to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for oil exploration. Clinton vetoed the bill, saying it would not help America's dependency on foreign oil because it would take ten years for the product to come on line.
plenty of surplus wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:52 AM:
There is not only a surplus of oil undedr land that is now leased by the oil companies. There is also a surplus of refining capacity at existing refineries. The oil companies have shut down much of their operations at existing refineries in order to push their own profitable agenda, locking up more leases.
Theyre Trying to Fool Us Again wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:18 AM:
It is my understanding that Bill Clinton opened up the Naval Petroleum Reserve which has 13.4 billion, billion barrels of KNOWN oil reserves. THIS IS NOT ANWR. Oil companies drilled 25 test wells and capped them.
They have the land and the oil. They are sitting on this while they are driving up the price of gas and raking in billions.
All the while using this to fool the American people and win an election. No thanks - no more Republican tricks and talking points.
