In Froma Harrop’s column about McCain (The World, July 31), she wrote this about Barack Obama:  “The lack of ballast makes his (Obama) messianic rallies, now spanning the continents, a bit creepy. Where did he come from?”

Since this  so-called independent columnist can write, I assume she can read. So why is it she doesn’t know where Sen. Obama came from? Or perhaps she is casting doubt on the senator’s ability to lead. All she has to do is read his two well-written books to learn about his origins. She also will learn what an intelligent visionary he is. And his campaign, thus far one of the best run in recent U.S. history, demonstrates Sen. Obama’s outstanding leadership and managerial skills.

Harrop packages herself as an independent voice on politics, economics and culture. I don’t remember reading her column in The World before today and I don’t care to ever read her again, since it is clear she lacks intellectual curiosity. Contempt prior to investigation is the mark of an ignorant person, as defined by William James the philosopher and psychologist.

Surely The World can find a more engaging columnist than Harrop. But please, don’t bring back Ann Coulter.

look where we are now wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:45 AM:

Our miserable economy, the outsourcing of our jobs, the strained state of our military, the abandonment of commitment to our veterans, the dismantling of our constitution and the middle class, and the expansion of corporate welfare can all be attributed to the "vision" of G W Bush, those who led him by the nose, and those who supported him. Yes, that includes J S McCain, who promises to continue driving our country into a ditch with Bush's economic policies.

There are really only two choices; "where we are now" or Obama.

Does anybody really like where we are now?

visionary What vision wrote on Aug 2, 2008 12:07 PM:

World history is full of visionaries. Stalin, Castro, and even Hitler were visionaries. Obama's vision as projected thus far looks like a call for the failed social policies of Europe.

Barack Hussein Obama has the most liberal voting record in the Senate.
He is merely a politician whose rhetoric of "change" does not match the reality of his corrupt
"Chicago-machine politics" background.
Obama's inspiring speeches and say-anything-to-win campaign tactics only reminds you of his questionable associations with both criminals and radicals.

Barack doesn't have enough experience to be a visionary at anything except delivering speechesthat were written for him!
Why do you think he make his European summer vacation? To try to get some "gravitaus"
