Bay Area Teen Idol organizers discovered Friday a major error in the tallying of Thursday night’s scores that resulted in the elimination of the wrong contestant.

As a result of the error, Krista Kilmer will return as a competitor next week, said contest spokesman Gary Brink.

Brink said organizers regularly review the results the morning after and the error was detected through the automatic recount, not because any complaint had been made.

“It was just an oversight,” Brink said. “We always double-check. I questioned it more than normal because I was surprised to see the Kilmer girl eliminated when I thought she gave a great performance.”

Kilmer performed Christina Aguilera’s “Reflection” in what was widely regarded as her best performance in the competition. She was one of two contestants eliminated Thursday, along with Tammi Burrell.

In light of the error, Brink said the contest would not eliminate another contestant this week but would instead eliminate three when the contest continues at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Egyptian Theatre.

Proud mom. keep up the support.. thank you

This is for the kids and parents are to be there to support them.. good or bad.. as a singer myself it does take a lot to get infront of people...do you really want to squash there spirits. whether they are good or not so good..why all the HATE...

To Starmom:
Relax and just enjoy your daughter and her performances. The rest of us are doing just that...Star is going to go places, no matter if she (fairly) wins Teen Idol or not. She has talent and grace far beyond her years. Just keep her believing in herself and keep her grounded. She's a natural and she's awesome!

To Krista:
We really enjoyed watching you grow this year and hope you will come back next year!

StarMom wrote on Aug 14, 2008 2:24 PM:

You guys are totally right...I'm really ashamed I had a lame meltdown when all I really want to do is promote the positive.I sincerely apologize to all, and must confess that my child has been way more mature about this than I.It really does seem to be such a political contest that it really did get to me and I acted like an idiot and said crummy things that shouldn't have been said...last year was so much more ridiculously worse, yet I kept it together fairly well....i'm sorry to any that I've hurt or made uncomfortable and will not let it happen again

Just like in youth sports it's the adults that mess is up for the kids.

Alyssa saw your comment, she could not stop smiling. Thank you!

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 8, 2008 10:29 PM:

Thank you Concerned Citizen too. It's seems as though thay have pulled my comment though. Hmmm...I just hope the officials take to heart my suggestion about the "bashing rule" amd that the girls had a chance to read the positive praise that was given them.

Way to go gals! Great performances! Star - you rock it every week!
Caitlin - You did great! I loved your Evanescence (?) song last summer!
Alyssa - Loved your rendition of Faithfully!
Samantha - Your voice is amazing and powerful!

concerned citizen too wrote on Aug 8, 2008 8:15 AM:

Way to go concerned citizen! I had the same problem. Between the profanity and the outrageous comments that were being screamed out at the contestants, I could hardly enjoy the show. No good vibes setting close to Starmom.

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 8, 2008 12:34 AM:

Stephanie,
"Where else can a teenager get this kind of experience and exposure"...well, probably at Starmom's house. I too was sitting in the audience and heard the sewage spewing forth. Maybe "the officials" need to add a new rule to the contest...any contestant, or immediate family of a contestant, heard bashing another contestant will be disqualified?!? Lets hope the apple falls very far away from the tree in this case...how's that for a "positive vibe"??
Oh, and Grandma..."Alpha" Wolf?!? That's assuming that I'm a man. But, then again, you know what happens when you "assume"...it's also nice to see that you "practice what you preach".
On a "positive" note: Caitlin and Alisha...very nice job. Destyni and Star...good job. Lot's of potential there.
Alyssa...SUPERB!!! "Faithfully"...the best song from this contest this year (or in recent years for that matter!) by far. Steve Perry would be proud! Keep it up!

Stephanie wrote on Aug 7, 2008 10:49 PM:

I am not sure that the site will post phone numbers. To those who want to volunteer, put your name and phone number on your people's choice ballot or call K-DOCK.

As for a young girl tasting defeat only to find out it was an error: yes, that happened. But, she rose above it and was proud of what she did... partly because of her Bay Area Teen Idol contestants and their parents. Lessons in life aren't always easy, but they are important to help us build character and strength to handle the next.

And, for the program, where else can a teenager get this kind of experience and exposure. There is not one kid in this program that doesn't deserve our praise. Come down and judge for yourself. Stop the attacks. And, remember, if you have suggestions, there's an appropriate place to put them... on your people's choice ballot.

fourth year idol fan wrote on Aug 7, 2008 4:22 PM:

Can't wait to see what you gals do to entertain us this week! I hear Motown and 80's! Woohoo. Should be a lot of fun for both the singers and the audience!

Grandma wrote on Aug 7, 2008 1:31 PM:

I think it would be hard to not get swept up in the "drama" after reading all of this. You can also tell who the Alpha Wolf is. It is just a shame that you all can't just get along for the sake of these wonderful kids. All they want to do is sing and compete and have a good time doing it. Please, don't ruin it for them by the way you are acting here.

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 7, 2008 11:06 AM:

Pril,
I'm sorry. I don't understand what you're asking me. Please be more specific...
I go to the competitions, I judge the kids fairly in my own mind and I use this website as a venue to express MY opinions. I also feel that too many people remain silent because we're taught from an early age to not "make waves" and in that process the right person usually loses out.
It is not my intention to offend anyone. If I have by the comments I have made...I'm sorry, but so be it. At least people are taking notice. I just wish people would use their brain and think things through and take into consideration the feelings of these young people.
I hope people understand why they call it show "business"...

pril wrote on Aug 7, 2008 7:12 AM:

concerned citizen, if you go to the events, why wait for the info to be put here? I'm in Klamath Falls or I'd be at the events, myself.

I hate to say this but I find it interesting that the reinstated contestant has the same last name as the contest organizer. I wonder if there is a relationship.

To Starmom wrote on Aug 6, 2008 8:26 PM:

What is a "positive vibe"? Do you guys think people can read your mind?

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 6, 2008 4:19 PM:

Grandma,
If your grandaughter wants to pursue Teen Idol 2009, by all means do so. Just try and not be swept up by all the "drama" and beware of the wolves! Best of luck...
MJH,
I believe the only time I've ever said anything remotely "rude" was only after I had been attacked first. Huh?!? Something to think about...
ANGIE,(did I get it right this time MJH?)
There's an old saying: There really is no "truth"...only versions of it. But,I will agree with you on one thing...the kids are great.
WOW! I wonder what this Thursday holds in store for us??

MJH wrote on Aug 6, 2008 1:33 PM:

Concerned Citizen, Is it really necessary for you to post such rude comments about everyone who writes in here? What did you accomplish by mentioning Angie's "grammatical errors and misspellings'? You can't even spell her name right when you are trashing her.
If you truly want to help, go volunteer, you said you are there all the time anyway.
As far as the counting error...have you really never made an error that affected someone else dramatically? If not, my hats off to you because you are more perfect than the rest of us!

Angie wrote on Aug 6, 2008 1:19 PM:

Concerned Citizen, thank you for the reply. Oh by the way I do work full time and have a family. I also volunteer in the Coos Bay Area, the officals are doing a good job. The kids are great, as a parent in this area it is nice for our kids to have something fun and exciting to do. They should have more of these kinda things for our youth. "That is the truth"

Proud Mom wrote on Aug 6, 2008 12:39 PM:

Please do not let what people comment here influence your decisions whether to join or help Teen Idol. We started going in 2003...Alyssa adored Koral Aakre. We have made many, many friends and Alyssa has gotten great experience for a kid that hopes to go to Broadway someday.
I encourage ALL of you to try to make this a better program, whether it is a pat on the back or constructive criticism. I have posted the website before, it is http://www.bayareateenidol.com/
Check it out...KDCQ runs it with people volunteering their time, a lot of it. Or come down to the Egyptian tomorrow and ask anyone in a Bay Area Teen Idol T-shirt.

grandma wrote on Aug 6, 2008 11:51 AM:

Boy! My daughter and I was going to let my grandaughter try out for Teen Idol next year so she could get some good positive experience and compete without the parents getting involved with the arguing and bickering. After reading these posts I don't think this is the right environment for my grandaughter to be in. As Mike wrote "are your kids reading these posts?" Let's hope not. Needless to say my grandaughter will not be trying out.

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 6, 2008 10:23 AM:

Angi,
I thought this site was supposed to be the place to go "where somebody cared". Am I mistaken??
As far as "growing up"...I made a suggestion, TO THE OFFICIALS, in hopes of helping this contest run a little smoother and more "professional" in the future. Now I have a bunch of whiners, complainers, and "desperate housewives" jumping all over my case. If you don't like what I write(or the truth for that matter)by all means...DON'T READ IT!!!
And as far as "talking like I'm someone important"...no. Obviously not, otherwise I wouldn't have time to squabble with you. I'm just someone who speaks the truth. Kinda' hurts, doesn't it?!

Angie wrote on Aug 6, 2008 8:24 AM:

Concerned Citizen,You need to grow up, you talk like you are someone important. I see this issue for you has nothing to do with Teen Idol if you want to complain go someplace were somebody cares.

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 5, 2008 9:28 PM:

Angi,
WHAT?? With all the grammatical errors and mispellings...I don't even know how to respond to your comment. I guess all I can say is...welcome to the band wagon?!?

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 5, 2008 9:22 PM:

Starmom,
Thank you for proving my point: "I almost didn't let Star compete this year because of this kind of thing last year".
Promote positive vibes...great idea! I sincerely hope it catches on!

Angie wrote on Aug 5, 2008 1:25 PM:

I think if someone is going to complain, about something is not being done right or how they could do a better job. Well then go take your time and go Volunteer. There are so many places in Coos County that could use your help. Nobody is perfect and if a mistake is made and fixed get over it. Adults are making a bigger problem when they keep the mistake in our minds. Let kids be kids and don't let personal opions get in the way. I thught Teen Idol was for the kids not bickering adults.

StarMom wrote on Aug 5, 2008 11:46 AM:

Wow!This is a bit scary!!I almost didn't let Star compete this year because of this kind of thing last year...aaagh!!I personally am only going to promote positive vibes for these great kids and this cool event(it's got to be exhausting for coordinators/volunteers..thank you guys!!!!!!!!!!good luck everyone. You kids rock

Honestly Fed Up wrote on Aug 5, 2008 11:11 AM:

Way to go Concerned Citizen! It's about time somebody gave these crybabies an earful. I'm behind you all the way...GO GET "EM!!!

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 5, 2008 12:35 AM:

Mike,
First of all, I do praise and support these kids. I show up, cheer them on, follow the stories in the paper and have to argue with people like you...I think they're great. I wish more of the adults were!
Next, you need to back up and read my earlier comments. Did I ever once make an ill comment about these kids? No. My critique was to the officials about "contoversy" circling the contest and the "major error in the tallying of the scores" where a young girl tasted defeat and had her heart broken in front of 250 people! All of that could've been avoided if somebody would've done their job right. I wonder...was that your job??
And as far as the "sour notes" go...here's some for you: How about you focus your rant on the ones who really need it, wipe some of that egg off your face and get your facts straight before you start accusing the wrong people!

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 4, 2008 11:50 PM:

Pril,
If the Teen Idol officials want my input they can leave their names and contact numbers on this site and I'll be more than happy to give them a call...thanks for the "pep talk".

pril wrote on Aug 4, 2008 4:20 PM:

Concerned Citizen, volunteers are needed for just about anything you can think of. Teen Idol being one of them, I'm sure. Do you expect them to come to your house and ask you to help them? Like they even know who you are. The world is run by those who show up, not by the ones who sit out and wait to be asked, like they're so special they can't be bothered unless someone asks them.

If you can help, by all means do so.

Mike wrote on Aug 4, 2008 4:05 PM:

CONCERNED CITIZEN why don't you use some of that energy to praise these kids for the hard work they are doing?

Do you have any idea what it takes to get up on the stage in front of total strangers and sing a song? Apparently not.

As far as being a volunteer, that is what you do, the protocol is "How Can I Help?".

But enough about you and your sour notes. I wonder if any of the kids are reading these comments you people are leaving? I hope not, how embarassing to be a so called adult.

I know these kids and they are simply wonderful people.

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 4, 2008 1:34 PM:

To "Pril",
What is this? Gang up on the Concerned Citizen?!? Okay, here goes...
There's a thing called "protocol". Even though alot of times our government, police forces, judicial systems and military don't seem to be able to get the job done, we can't "just go do it" (not legally anyway)...not until we are called upon to do so. Life is not a Nike commercial. Would you like it if someone were to walk into your home, started eating your food and watching your television without asking?? No, I thought not...
Anything else I need to "clarify" for you?!?

pril wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:53 AM:

concerned citizen, why wait til you're asked? Why not just go do it?

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:07 AM:

To "Ty",
Obviously we have different definitions of the word "great".
Yes...if called upon by the contest officials, I would step forward and offer my time and energy.
It seems we can add yet another "dark cloud" to the drama...your derogatory comment about a single parent. Lets try and rise above that kind of garbage!

Honestly Fed Up wrote on Aug 4, 2008 9:47 AM:

I don't think "they (I'm assuming this comment is directed at the contest officials) already know who is going to be #1"...but I think everybody who is unbiassed, and has an honest ear, has a pretty good idea of who the top contestants are.
C'mon on down on Thursday evenings and honestly judge for yourselves!

Ty wrote on Aug 4, 2008 8:17 AM:

CONCERNED CITIZEN: The people who have agreed to keep Teen Idol alive are doing a great job! I would doubt you would have the guts to contact one of them and offer your volunteer time to them? Doubtful.

The people who are working on this event also have full time jobs and families.

The only "Dark Cloud" is one single parent who can't handle it when her daughter has a bad night and a bad score.

Teen Idol is wonderful and a great summer activity for the kids.

so CONCERNED CITIZEN do you have the guts to step forward and offer your time?

Coquille wrote on Aug 2, 2008 3:26 PM:

I think that there has been more than one mistake in the contest. It seems like they already know who is going to be #1. For the rest of the kids, keep up the good work. You all have a lot of talent. Keep smiling!!

Honestly Fed Up wrote on Aug 2, 2008 11:34 AM:

THANK HEAVENS IT DIDN'T INVOLVE ALYSSA BIRRER AND STAR MORALEZ!!! I'm about sick of that drama...and all the negative "nay-sayers" like Slimfan. If all you're gonna' do is get bent outta' shape, whine and make nasty comments, do the rest of us a favor and JUST STAY HOME!!! You people are ruining this contest for the rest of us.

Honest and Fed Up wrote on Aug 2, 2008 11:03 AM:

To all the negative "nay-sayers" like Slimfan...if you're gonna' be bent outta' shape and make all those nasty comments...do everybody a favor and just stay home. YOU'RE NOT HELPING!!!

Concerned Citizen wrote on Aug 2, 2008 10:39 AM:

It seems whenever I hear of Teen Idol 2008, it always has some kind of "black cloud" hanging over it. It also seems with all the surrounding "controversy" that "the powers that be" would be doing a more accurate, and cleaner job of running this contest. If they can't, maybe they need to let someone else take over and coordinate.

darla wrote on Aug 2, 2008 10:14 AM:
