Update: North Coos, North Medford post Saturday wins

Host North Coos and North Medford both stayed unbeaten in the American Legion Class A State Tournament at Clyde Allen Field on Saturday.

The Waterfront and Mavericks meet at 6 p.m. today in the double-elimination tournament, with the winner having the inside track for the state title and the berth in the regional tournament at Washington.

North Coos 11, Ashland 1



Jesse McClintock pitched a two-hitter and Dalton Iveans and Nic Canaday had home runs to lift North Coos over Ashland 11-1 in five innings in the late game Saturday.

McClintock struck out 10 batters and got out of two bases-loaded jams with strikeouts, ending the first and third innings.

Iveans gave North Coos a 2-0 lead in the first with his blast off a house beyond the left-field fence and Canaday later added a two-run double in the inning.

Canaday homered on the first pitch of the fourth, lifting a ball into the stiff breeze and over a hedge beyond left field. McClintock had an RBI double and scored one of the Waterfront’s five runs later in that inning.

McClintock, Iveans and Bryce Weidman each had two runs for North Coos. McClintock and Canaday had two hits each.

Ashland scored its only run on a sacrifice fly by Max Gordon in the top of the fifth inning. Weidman ended the game with an RBI single to score Ryan Campbell with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Ashland faces Jake’s Crawfish at 3 p.m. today in an elimination game.

North Medford 12, Grants Pass Miners 5



Bradey Shipley combined with Chris Bradshaw on a one-hitter and also hit a home run to help North Medford stay unbeaten in the tournament.

Shipley and Corey Haggans both hit home runs in the sixth inning as North Medford stretched a 3-2 lead to 6-2. The Mavericks added six runs in the top of the seventh.

Grants Pass got its only hit in the bottom of the seventh, when Taylor Bars had a three-run double.

Hayden Wolfe had two doubles and three runs for North Medford. Haggans, Shipley and Cory Pine also scored two runs each, while Bradshaw and Jesse Hornbrook had two hits.

Jake’s Crawfish 4, Pendleton 3



Nic Coffman had a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Jake’s Crawfish a 4-3 win over Pendleton in an elimination game.

Peter Valentine picked up the win for Jake’s Crawfish, pitching a complete game. Spenser McNutt had three hits and scored the winning run.

Dannan Baker and Josh Ernst each had two hits, including a double, while Wyatt Whitten and Kolby Haliewics also had doubles in the losing effort for the Merchants.

Roseburg Pepsi 12, Willoughby Sonics 0



Micah Audiss had a single, double and home run and drove in four runs to help Roseburg Pepsi stay alive in the tournament.

Tyler Bullock pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the Bottlecaps, who face the Grants Pass Miners today in another elimination game.

Vince Ampi had two doubles and a single and scored three runs for Roseburg. Josh Davis and Blake Cupp each had a single and a double.
