Let the people invest in railroad
Thursday, July 31, 2008 | 1 comment(s)
So, here’s how we can make this railroad problem work.
First, we get the Port of Coos Bay to get the question on our ballots. The questions should read: Should the people of Coos County, through property taxes, pay $5 per year and receive five shares each for the citizens railroad of Coos County, as noted on our tax bills, with unlimited shares at $1 each to all participating shippers suing the rails or rail system? Include our CEDCO partners who could build a siding and platform to accommodate a self-sustained dining car to make the trip toward Eugene once a week, to start near the RV park.
Remembering tracks run both ways, we wouldn’t have to be held hostage by any airline and trains can be made up by a multitude of cars and commodities.
I would like to read in this newspaper that our commissioners, county, port, airport and local movers and shakers jumped in four-wheel drive suburbans and inspected what’s for sale first.
We are about timber here in Coos County and you big guys need to step up to the plate and give back some of your good fortune.
Remember Mother Nature and a higher power did most of the work.
As for urgent medical or other needs we have to have, I’m sure we have a few hot dog, fast-moving jets around that would love to make a few bucks especially if it’s insurance money.
As for liquefied natural gas interests, I’m not hearing about anything they’re willing to give instead of take for our way of life.
